Once mourners, maidens, or worse, they were twisted by the corruption into shrieking spirits that feed on the warm blood of the living, drifting through the undercity with a taunting cry of "I'm a PRO!" before they lunge. Where the demon lords rule the vaults with fire and pride, the banshees haunt the same halls with life-drain and sorrow, healing themselves on the vitality they steal.
			They nest close to the demon lords, so adventurers who descend beneath the capital rarely face one threat at a time — a careless hunter can find a banshee draining their life while a lord burns the floor beneath them. That danger is the price of admission: the banshees guard rings, robes, and rare gems worth braving the wailing dark, and clearing them alongside the lords is a rite many capital heroes pass before heading into the wider realm.
